On the streets of the city there are
panhandles-a-plenty,

I gladly give alms to each I encounter,

cha-chings and hollow-thuds
not accepted as legal tender for all debts, public & private.

MUSIC OF THE TERRESTRIAL SPHERE: VOL. II

(Audio.  Approx. 10:00)

A noise narrative of the eternal cycle.

Designed to be looped ad infinitum (I've listened to it over 100 times in a row over the last three days).

Headphones and/or Hi-Fi system strongly recommended.

Created using only vinyl source material (21 records in all)

notes:  (a) intentionally bookended by durations of  low volume.
              (b) listen here as well: 6. Consonance.

KIT-BASHING

What shall I build myself out of today?

Ambition?  Honesty?  An impervious arrogance?  A tempered blend of all in the spectrum?

The pieces lay before me in a pile and I ponder on the task ahead.

Which piece should I choose as the foundation for my structure?
Which combination of parts will prevent untimely breakdown?
Or enable the most efficient locomotion?
Or allow for easy maintenance?

I begin to build again without proper tools or manual or even a memory of what it's supposed to look like when I am done.

LOOSELY THEMED ON PLACE & PROCESS

This drawing (4'x8')

was created in front of an audience of hundreds at this deep-in-the-backwoods party:

I began this drawing (4'x8')

by planting a teeny white cubed seed upon the black background.

Using white ink as an eraser, black ink for the lines, and the muddy mixture messes of gray as vague indications of plane change, I accreted upon that seed.  Layer by layer by layer by layer by layer by layer by layer, etc.  The idea was to improvise, adapt, and evolve the drawing as it grew out from its center.  A different tactic than the tracing-invisible-lines-with-black that I was accustomed to applying.  Much slower.

I drew for hours.  A dense mass of humanity watching all the while.

The party pulsed ceaselessly through the night.

Finally, as the party approached its peak, the form grew to fruit.

Both blossomed full as the globe spun toward the sun.  The rapt crowd gasped in awe as I finished the drawing with a flourish of keystone masterstroke.  Just as the sun lit it alight with the first ray of day.  Majestic.  Magnificent.

The crowd erupted in/on ecstasy.  The apex of all had arrived.

Amen.

Or,

maybe,

as the sky turned light I was like,

"Oh, shit, it's Day.  Huh.  Well, fuck this then, I'm tired",

and walked away.

Like, maybe, nobody even gives a fuck anywho.

Not the 06:00-08:00 DJ.
Not the four people still dancing.
Not the other three who are still awake.

Maybe, perhaps, the increasing pervasiveness of light began to reveal equally pervasive errors in my drawing (growing?) and the idea of flopping comfortably unconscious sounded quite serene.

Maybe.
Perhaps.
Probably.
Yes.
Of Course.

GEOMETRY AS STRUCTURE

Of all plane figures, the circle encloses the greatest area of surface for a
given circumference, or alternatively, encloses a given area with the smallest
circumference.  Likewise, of any three-dimensional shape the sphere matches
the greatest volume to the least surface area.

&

The triangle is the only polygon that is stable (rigid) by virtue of its geometry.

The repeated pattern of triangles is a pervasive geometrical arrangement
in the physical world.  It can range in scale from from structures easily
seen with the unaided eye, e.g. the bee's honeycomb, to those requiring
magnification, e.g. the association of cells in tissues or atoms in crystals.

If circles are tightly packed, as densely as possible, and their center joined,
triangles are formed.  When the centers of packed hexagons are joined,
an array of triangles also results.

Hexagonal cells match minimum material to maximum usable area while
employing the inherent strength of the triangular order.

AMPLE DASHES OF BALDER

Q
uestion:  Whereto, wayward wandering whale?

Answer:  Wherever wide and wild waters.

I've been!  In my bathtub bathyscaphe, and back before bed!

Hurrah!  A-ha!  Blah-blah.

Warbly whistler?  Wispy whisperer?  What withered wisdom and odious orations and bel canto belches of bile.  Cease your silliness and speak sense.

Careful caution curious kitten-cat.  Prodding-pawed meowing mousy mouth.  I tower over your teeth and tail.  You're frail under my feet and cowering from the power.

Whist your warnings!  All flip-flop and flooie, blim-bam and blooie.  Flootey foofaraw.  Ha!

Begin a Battle?  I'll batter your barricades, defy and destroy your defenses.  Bazookas, Bombs, and Bayonets.

No and nope.  Needn't not.  Clear eyes and blue skies.  Pacify, pitiful proponderer.  Satisfy, loquacious louse.  Alight your fickle feathers, tighten your tethers, and watch your weather.

Waves upon waves upon waves of weapons!  Fear! Hear?

My forte.  Your foible.

I'll sink swords into your hordes.  I am legend and lord, levitating toward luminous light.  Alright?

Heights?  Fights?  See-saw?  Yee-haw!  Lousy loud lyrics.  You din while I'll win amen with sweetly soft swish-swirl-swoosh.  Sonorous serenity.  Sounds of salvation.

Aural ambrosia?  Noise nectar?  Never.  Forever flight my fickle feathers.  Farewell.  Seeyouinhell.

Fly high.  Waver naught your wings for which the wind so silently sings.

DIVERSITY OF SOCIAL ECOSYSTEMS

E
arly in life I was surrounded by morons.

I was unsettled by this and vowed to work hard to change my environment.

Years passed, and eventually I found myself within the ranks of elite above-averages.

Lately I've been noticing myself slipping into the role of moron because of the vacancy.

EN TRANCE

Alone in the wilderness I walked beneath an audience of looming deciduous trees.

The wind stirred.

The sound and movement of the leaves like so many clapping hands, I wondered if I was being applauded as a hero returned.

I leaked a smile.

But then I listened closer and wondered again.

They could just as easily be laughing at me.

My smile grew into a toothy grin.

POSTDATED

Lately (pun unintentional) I've been nocturnal.

At 04:30, in search of yet another supplement of caffeine, I put on my outerwear and made for the exit.

I opened the door.

Spot-lit at my foot was a teeny black kitten, sitting, looking up at me.

It mewed, then entered uncoaxed with confidence.

It was a gift to giggle gleefully at, a secret treasure to hoard and cherish. I followed it and sat silently in order to observe its behavior.

The kitten walked directly towards the center of the floor, sat down, and began its ablutions in earnest.

Suddenly, alarmingly, the miniature creature aborted its activity and snapped still-statued.

It had noticed the clock on the wall.

With no hesitation, the kitten ran & leaped & climbed, as high as it could, to a spot directly in front and below the clock.

It sat and stared wide-eyed, its teeny feline face circling clockwise, synchronous to every tick and tock.

Watching time pass by.

FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS

I had a dream that took place on the street where I grew up.

I awoke from it only halfly.  Into a liminal space that was not-yet-awake and not-still-asleep.

In that interstitial state, the vague and fuzzy outlines of the dream began to form on the surface of my thoughts.  It was a puzzle I was possessed to solve, so I set out to arrange the disjointed fragments into sequence.

I was able to do this with speed and accuracy by associating the series of actions to the geography of the street.

The dream had begun in front of my childhood home, continued down the sidewalk, across the street, and faded away somewhere around the block.

But not before I was possessed by another puzzle.

As I was reconstructing the geographical narrative of my dream, I encountered the forgotten memory of a long-ago dream that had its own sights and sounds that shared a specific spot on that same sidewalk.

I tracked the sequence of events from this long-ago dream, following its path in the opposite direction until it faded from distant memory several streets over.

But not before something astounding occurred.

The memory of that long-ago dream crossed the path of an even-longer-ago dream that unfolded into an all-together different direction.

Then that dream encountered another, and so on and so on.

I followed my dreams in and out of my neighborhood and through all the rooms of my childhood home.

Finally, it all ended where I had started, in front of the house and facing west, but now I was surrounded by the incomplete traffic of ghosts.

WALLS OF WORD-WARNINGS

P
ay me with attention Wayward Wanderer, I pre-proclaim the approach of peril on your path.

Be wary of the way.

I say for certain you'll sink your step scuttle-foot.  Fall face-flat upon the floor.  Fail forever.

Hear and adhere:

Your self-sowed seeds in toiled soil will be falsely fruiting feeble flora, flaccid & frozen in fallow.

Heed or to hell!

Continue this course and you're a coffin-corpse, killed into cans of cremation, or be a buried-beneath-broken-body beginning to become bones.

Your direction is dark and deathly, listen to the light of my language.

I plead your pause...

...as you pass and persist upon your path.
